The Costume Research Collection at NIDA is one of the most substantial repositories of vintage clothing and accessories within an educational institution in Australia. This invaluable collection is currently in the process of being documented and will be preserved for both study and exhibition purposes.
With the acquisition of several hundred pieces from The Sophie van Rood, Banana Room Collection the Research Collection now includes men's, women's and children's clothes dating from the early 19th century to the present. Accessories as diverse as hats, handbags, gloves, hosiery and shoes offer an additional resource to the researcher.
NIDA is committed to sharing these resources with the general public and professionals in the design field, as well as with the students and faculty in order to explore the design process and nurture creativity through its exhibitions and the use of its collections.
For information about this collection, including donations to the Costume Research Collection, please contact NIDA Head of Costume on (02) 9697 7600 or email to info@nida.edu.au.
