THE SCREEN ACTOR

For 18 years + selected by audition.

Work with specialist NIDA tutors and industry guests to develop your personal screen presence for film, television and other media.

This course will introduce you to aspects of an actor's essential skills for screen performance.

Skills developed in this course include screen presence, openness and the subtle visual language used to convey character development, sub-text and relationships within the camera frame. You will build vocal, physical and interpretive skills as an actor and in-depth experience with characterisation, scene work and the actor's filming experience, both in the studio and on location. Each term concludes with a practical presentation of your work. Participants are given a copy of some of their work at the completion of the course.

Term 1: SCREEN PRESENCE

physical presence, vocal communication, improvisation, acting to camera and screen language

Term 2: THE SMALL SCREEN

storytelling on screen, scene work for television, acting in drama and comedy for TV

Term 3: THE BIG SCREEN

characters on screen, working with a director, rehearsing and shooting scenes on location, screen tests, the industry, agents, producers, directors

Term 4: STUDIO

working in the studio with a director.

FEES

The total course cost for 2008 is $3,975 inc. GST.  Fees payable over 5 instalments of $795.

Fees must be paid in advance. There is no refund of fees once the term commences.

APPLICATIONS

The audition will involve improvised exercises and a short script which you will be sent once you apply. Please wear comfortable clothing to the audition. All applicants are given an audition. The decision of the audition panel is final.

Complete an application form and send it to NIDA Open Program with the application fee ($22), your resume, a passport size photograph and a paragraph explaining why you would like to do this course.  Applications are due by 26 November 2008.
