THE NIDA COMPANY

Writers, composers, directors and designers need the opportunity to test new work without the glare of publicity and the need for instant commercial success. Promoting innovation, experimentation and career development through offering such opportunities are essential functions of a national theatre school.

NIDA's commitment to new work began at the Old Tote and Jane Street in the late 1960's. NIDA is proud to have assisted the careers of David Williamson, Alex Buzo, Dorothy Hewett, Peter Kenna and many other playwrights who have gone on to transform Australian Theatre.

The NIDA Company was formed in 1990 to continue this process.

The NIDA Company and the SBW Foundation presented Bob Herbert’s Australian classic, No NamesNo Pack Drill in the Parade Theatre from 17 August – 3 September 2006, involving NIDA graduates spanning five decades. Directed by Tony Knight and designed by Peter Cooke, it starred Bridie Carter, David Lyons and Travis McMahon and featured Helmut Bakaitis, Roderic Byrnes, Jennifer Hagan, David James, Robin McLeavy and Ray Sullivan.
