In 1915, Lord Kitchener raised a battalion from the Accrington in Lancashire …'The Accrington Pals'. Of the 750 'pals', 500 were killed on the Somme. Peter Whelan's funny and sad play contrasts the lives of the men in the trenches with those of their women left at home. It is a moving and lyrical play about ordinary people coping with extraordinary times.
