Ben Travis was a contemporary of Noel Coward and PG Wodehouse.

A year before he died in 1980, Ben Travers said the great thing about living to be 93 was that all your rivals are dead and you can afford to be generous with younger chaps.

Sir Hector Benbow invites a party to his English country estate, Thark, but the house is haunted.

Farce and terror result. Shifting between London's Mayfair and the Norfolk estate, characters scramble to avoid any whiff of scandal with hilarious results.

Sparkling, witty and very sophisticated, "Thark" is one of the great English farces.
