CONTEMPORARY AUSTRALIAN THEATRE PRACTICE

Masterclasses designed to assist drama teachers with practical methods for approaching the HSC topics on the new 2009-2012 Drama syllabus. The workshops will include new texts that have been prescribed for the drama syllabus for Australian Theatre. There will also be two workshops covering the new drama topics on the 2009 syllabus.  Each topic will be covered in a three-hour session taught through a combination of practical performance work, seminar discussion and some written support material.

HSC DRAMA: TEACHING THE INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

Explore the creative process and how to mentor students through the HSC Drama Individual Project.  You will consider teaching the directorial concept, as well as the creative process involved in mentoring a project from the initial idea to completion.  The sessions will covers the practical steps involved in creating a script, video drama or individual performance project for HSC Drama.

TEACHING DESIGN: LIGHTING

Develop skills to produce a lighting plan including a floor plan, lanterns and gels, a cue sheet and running sheet. For secondary Drama and Entertainment teachers.

TEACHING DESIGN: SET

Develop a design concept for a text and develop the concept through creating a model box built to scale and a floor plan.

TEACHING DESIGN: COSTUME

Develop a design concept for a chosen play, which is then realised by rendering a costume design either in watercolours, pencil or computer aided design.

TEACHING DESIGN: POSTER AND PROMOTION

Develop a design concept for a play which is then realised by creating a poster, program or a flyer for the play.

TEACHING STORYTELLING

Drama is the basis of great storytelling.  Develop skills in teaching storytelling through drama as a way to stimulate creativity and literacy in young students.  You will gain experience from some of the best theatre practitioners through classes in improvisation, acting, devising and writing. For primary teachers.

TEACHING TEXTILES

An opportunity for Textiles teachers to spend a day with NIDA specialists in costume and fashion design and making. The focus will be on how teachers can support students in tehir HSC Textiles projects, particularly in Costume and Textile Art.

VIDEO MAKING IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM

Develop confidence in using digital video in the primary classroom and how best to incorporate it for a variety of subject areas. This course will cover storyboarding, shooting on camera and the basics of editing using imovie.
