NIDA’s 46-year history is, in many ways, the history of Australian Theatre. Since its establishment in 1958, NIDA has been inextricably linked to theatre in Australia. Over four decades, NIDA has grown from a small acting school in a nest of old huts, into an internationally recognised institute that has provided Australia with some of the finest artists and technicians in the world.
Over the course of this creative journey, NIDA has collected a wealth of irreplaceable material, including: costumes, masks, hats, designs, scripts, photographs, manuscripts, and countless other objects that represent a pivotal part of Australia’s cultural heritage.
NIDA and the Seaborn, Broughton & Walford Foundation have initiated a joint project to organise and develop their performing arts collections as a major Australian cultural resource. This long-term project will result in protecting, preserving and making accessible these most valuable treasures for our future generations.
To fulfil the goals of this project and to ensure its growth and continuation, The NIDA Foundation Trust is reliant on community support.
