Set in 1904 before the Revolutions, Gorky's great play looks at a group of holiday-makers feeling the winds of historical change flowing around them.

It caused a riot in the theatre on its premiere and still has a sting in its tail today as we look guardedly about our own lives in the shadow of World Events. The play has been adapted by Karen Vickery whose Australian contemporary version is couched in an immediacy that is thrilling.
