Somantics is a physical theatre double bill performed by NIDA third year actors. Physical theatre companies have become increasingly popular in recent years: Cirque de Soleil, DV8 and Australia's Legs on the Wall, Circus Oz and Rock'n'Roll Circus. Physical theatre is a melding of dance, movement and drama. It is extremely demanding on the physical powers and expressiveness of the actor. It takes NIDA actors out of conventional theatre genres into a world of infinite possibility.
The Somantics double-bill is directed by Julia Cotton, Senior Movement Tutor at NIDA, and Veronica Neeve, who has performed with Legs on the Wall and directed at ATYP. The program comprises two sections; Man With Bags by Eugene Ionesco and directed by Julia Cotton, and The Word Dog Never Bit Anyone devised and directed by Veronica Neave.
