Explore your body as a tool for performance; investigate physical truth in characterisation. Understand how to drive a movement-based narrative to create compelling theatre.

In the second term, utilise the skills developed in term 1 to create dynamically arresting work. Consider improvisation and composition techniques as key principles in the creative process.

This Studio is ideal for actors interested in movement, dancers interested in acting and contemporary performance makers and artists.

At the end of the studio, you will be able to:
• draw from a variety of movement disciplines to create performance
• make informed physical choices in character development
• understand key principles in theatre composition and choreography
• combine imagination and physicality to enhance performance
• respond to both a directorial and choreographic vision
• work autonomously to create your own work as well as collaborate effectively with others

Saturdays, 11.00am-5.00pm

Term 1: 27 July to 14 September
Interrogate a range of movement systems designed for performance in both a training and devising structure: Suzuki, Viewpoints, Alexander and Release Technique, Mask, Contact Improvisation, and traditions of European Dance Theatre.

Term 2: 12 October to 30 November
Apply your skills to the demands of the movement specialist in a range of performance contexts including classical and contemporary theatre, film, opera and puppetry. This term culminates with a presentation of a self-devised project.
