SECONDARY SCHOOLSPractical workshops in the areas of acting, performance and production for stage or screen can be arranged for primary and secondary students at NIDA or at your school.Choose from a range of set workshops or customise your own to suit your students’ needs.
NIDA workshops enable your students to work with specialised tutors to accelerate their learning and advance their skills building on what they have learnt in the classroom. All workshops at NIDA include a tour of the NIDA theatres and building. Costs are based on hourly, daily or weekend rates. Please contact the Schools Manager for a quote.

Secondary Drama workshop (Years 7-10)
Workshops focus on dramatic forms and performance styles and playbuilding for the Drama 7-10 syllabus. The suggested length of these workshops is 2 hours. The fee for a 2 hour workshop plus tour is $440 per group.
Physical Theatre and Stage Combat Develop Physical theatre and stage combat skills including physical action, stage composition and safety. Students will be introduced to the discipline of stage combat and develop a short stage combat sequence.
Commedia dell’Arte, Mask and Improvisation Develop Commedia characters and scenarios through improvisation and mask work. Students will develop skills in mask and characterization to develop stock characters. Through improvisation the students will create scenarios and lazzi based on the characters.
Physical Theatre and Comedy Explore physical theatre through the comic forms of circus skills, mime and clowning. Through movement, characterization, stillness, gesture and physical action develop skills and devised sequences based on clowning, mime and/or circus skills.
Scripted Drama and Realism Using scenes from a play (Australian theatre or other) explore the characters actions such as given circumstances, inner truth, objectives and answers to the key questions. Start to create a physical character as you work intensively on the scene toward a truthful performance.
Small Screen Drama (full day workshop) Learn the steps involved in developing a storyboard and/or script for film or TV. Create a sequence of shots to create a narrative and experience the process of shooting the sequence to create a short video drama.
Shakespeare Workshop Explore Shakespeare’s world through focusing on language, acting style and staging in a classic workshop based on a chosen play. Work on a key scene focusing on skills for performing Shakespeare.
Improvised Shakespeare Improvise and adapt ideas from one of Shakespeare’s plays using the narrative to devise an original story in a contemporary setting.
Melodrama, Improvisation and Playbuilding Using the conventions of Melodrama explore traditional melodrama scripts and character or improvise and devise a contemporary melodrama (soap opera style) using characters and conventions developed in the workshop.
Stock Character Workshop Explore the stock characters and conventions of Melodrama and Commedia dell’arte through mask work and movement. Use traditional scripts or improvise a contemporary melodrama or Commedia piece using characters developed in the workshop. This is a full day workshop.
