NIDA's mission is to pursue excellence, innovation and access in entertainment arts education and training, specialising in dramatic art, whilst maintaining a national focus and an international perspective.
While this is a broad statement, NIDA's mission is precise as it seeks to promote three fundamental elements in dramatic arts education in the following ways:
EXCELLENCE
NIDA's primary role and objective is to continue to select and train exceptionally gifted people for careers in various fields of theatre, film and television.
NIDA offers three year full-time accredited Bachelor of Dramatic Art courses in Acting, Design, Production and Production Crafts.
NIDA offers a two year full-time accredited Advanced Diploma of Dramatic Art n Scenery Construction.
NIDA offers a one year full-time accredited Graduate Diploma of Dramatic Art specialising in Directing, Voice Studies or Movement Studies.
NIDA offers a one year full-time postgraduate Master of Dramatic Art specialising in Directing, Voice Studies or Movement Studies.
INNOVATION
NIDA is committed to and promotes innovation, research and experiment in the dramatic arts through the NIDA Company, the NIDA Next Stage Play Development Program and the NIDA Playwrights Studio.
The NIDA Company brings together professional artists, NIDA staff and NIDA production, production crafts, directing and design students in the research, development and production of new Australian plays, classic plays, music theatre and other forms of experimental work or works not performed by major companies.
The NIDA Playwrights Studio brings together a group of talented people to learn the techniques of writing for the theatre through a part-time non-accredited course.
The NIDA Next Stage Play Development Program assists new writers to develop original plays by commissions, readings, workshops and dramaturgical advice.
ACCESS
NIDA provides access to theatre training for the general public and seeks to improve the awareness of, and appreciation for, the dramatic arts and cultural diversity through the NIDA Open Program and the NIDA Corporate Performance Program.
The NIDA Open Program provides access to drama training for young people, drama teachers and the community at large through non-accredited, short and part-time, recreational courses and skills development programs in Sydney, in other capital cities, in Australian country and regional areas and abroad.
The NIDA Corporate Performance Program provides non-accredited, professional development performance training and courses to corporate clients and business professionals at NIDA and client venues throughout Australia and abroad.
Each of these three elements contributes to the image and worth of the NIDA as a whole. However each has a distinct philosophical focus with different objectives, which are pursued with a measure of independence.
NIDA will continue to pursue the goals of Excellence, Innovation and Access.
