miCroPhone NIDA Corporate Performance e-newsletter
| | |
Dear <~~First~~>,
Welcome to the final edition of miCroPhone for 2007, the NIDA Corporate Performance E-Newsletter.
It has been a highly successful year for Corporate Performance with over 40 public programs held in Sydney and Interstate and many of our regular clients continuing with customised training activities.
Earlier this year we held our first Leadership Skills for Women program in Hobart and Adelaide, and based on the success of these programs and the overwhelming participant feedback, we will launch a new series of ‘She Means Business' seminars in 2008. You can read more about the seminars in this edition and we invite you to register your interest so that you can receive advanced information on the tour dates.
Your feedback on this publication, or any aspect of our training is always welcome and we invite you to get in touch with us at any time.
In this edition:
1. 'Technically Speaking' - Presenting with Technical Aids: The Do's and Don'ts 2. 'She Means Business' Seminars 2008: Touring Australia 3. Final Training Programs for 2007: Women in Business Course offered in December
Finally we would like to thank you for your ongoing support and to wish you a peaceful festive season and a successful New Year. We look forward to welcoming you to NIDA in 2008.
Regards, The Corporate Performance Team

TECHNICALLY SPEAKING | Presenting with Technical Aids
NIDA Corporate Performance is frequently approached by business executives who report having reached a point in their career where they are fully confident of their work knowledge, yet feel this competence does not always translate when presenting with technical aids. The most common request we receive is for techniques to improve the delivery to best communicate the message with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
NIDA Corporate Performance provides skills and techniques for communicating the primary message without being dependent on notes or technical props. Pitches, presentations, small in-house briefings, can be enhanced by visual aids such as PowerPoint presentations, posters, flip-charts, hand-outs or video shows, provided these are employed judiciously and to powerful effect. A common mistake is using visual aids as a crutch instead of making a personal connection with the audience. It’s important to remember, you are your own best resource.

PREPARING FOR A PRESENTATION | Some Do's and Dont's
Here are some tips on how to deliver a successful presentation using technical aids:
• Rehearse in the venue and assess whether your aids are appropriate to the size of your audience • Make sure they can be clearly seen • Look at your audience frequently to establish rapport and a connection • Do not look at your visual aids other than a quick glance, and never read them • Never turn your back on the audience to read the slides • When using slides from an overhead or data projector don’t move between the projector and the screen, and don’t leave the slide showing if you are not discussing the data • Develop and prioritise handouts, and ensure that they “add-value” to the audience. Ask yourself whether or not they assist in keeping your audience focused on the presentation. Decide in advance whether you will you refer to them during your presentation • Don’t read to the audience, and remember to address the audience and not the screen • Explain each step • Ask for feedback to verify understanding, commitment and impact.

SHE MEANS BUSINESS SEMINARS 2008
The challenge for all communicators is to find the way to inspire others by expressing thoughts, concepts and ideas in a manner that is concise and lasting. 'She means Business' is an informative and enriching session that focuses on critical management and communication issues for women. Under the skilful direction of Australian actor and corporate trainer, Debra Lawrance, participants will explore compelling views on what it takes to command attention and create a meaningful and powerful impression. Debra is a passionate speaker and she is keen to share her vast knowledge on the key ingredients for creating an effective vocal and physical presence, explain how voice, gesture, movement and language are interpreted by others, and demonstrate how each of these elements lead naturally to the ability to communicate with authority and authenticity.
The 'She Means Business' seminars will be held in all major capital cities and regional centres across Australia. To register your interest to be a part of these dynamic and engaging seminars, email cpmarketing@nida.edu.au
