Dear <~~First~~>,

There is a great deal happening at NIDA over the next few months. Our graduation plays for 2008 are just finishing and have played to a season of packed houses.  NIDA’s annual design exhibition has transformed the Nancy Fairfax Foyer.  The exhibition showcases the work of our graduating design, production crafts, production and scenery construction students. It is open until the end of October from 9 am to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday (9 am to 5pm on Sundays), so come and be entertained and inspired by the creativity of the work on display.

From 26-29 November NIDA’s graduating directors present Emergency, a season of six short plays.  The plays chosen by the directors reveal a pre-occupation with strong writing related to the human need to make connections. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the next generation of Australian directors.

December and January will feature NIDA’s Summer Program which offers opportunities for everyone to get a taste of NIDA’s world class training during the holiday period.  Full details of this exceptional program are on our website.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming productions or courses.

This month we chat with Tom Healey, who has recently directed Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love for NIDA's graduation productions.

Most memorable NIDA experience?
There are many of them - my 2 unsuccessful auditions as an actor 25 years ago were the beginning of my journey with NIDA.  There have been some amazing shows ...

CORPORATE TRAINING
BE PREPARED TO PERFORM

The graduating director's choices of six short plays reveal a pre-occupation with strong writing related to the human need to make connections.  In a fragmented world playwrights Ionesco and Koltes try to make intimate connections in The Bald Soprano and In the Solitude of Cotton Fields.

Often the past and memory come to haunt us as we try to connect in the present as in Paula Vogel’s How I Learned to Drive and Tennessee Williams’ This Property is Condemned.

Ironically, in what may seem a tragic perspective, these plays also reveal an odd or even outrageous humour. Drag queens, clown-like characters, and wistful eccentrics abound.

The season runs from 26-29 Nov in the Parade Space.

This year's design exhibition has been a tremendous success, with visitors continuing to be amazed at the quality and ingenuity of NIDA graduating design, production crafts, production and scenery construction students' work.

This exhibition shows how the students have tackled the classic and contemporary plays and dealt with their complex themes.  Each delivers imaginative solutions while developing their own professionalism.

The design exhibition will remain in the Nancy Fairfax foyer until the end of October and is free to all so take the opportunity to take a step into a different time and theatrical space and be inspired by the next generation of design and crafts talent.

The skills for achieving an outstanding performance are as much of a priority for a business professional due to give a big presentation as they are for an actor on opening night. NIDA Corporate Performance has a range of presentation and communication skills programs designed to imbue professionals with skills that are intrinsic to the acting trade: those of confidence, audibility, influence over an audience and skills to make sure that the key message is remembered, appreciated and applauded.

Be Prepared to Perform is a two-hour experiential seminar which explores the combining of authenticity with vocal and physical accuracy. Participants can expect to be informed, challenged and empowered to improve preparation, focus, physicality and vocal ability.
