One of Shakespeare’s best known tragedies, Macbeth begins with prophecies that steadily lead Macbeth to obsession. In order to ensure the words of the prophecies are brought about Macbeth commits atrocities that threaten to spiral into utter despair and ultimate retribution.
“Who so the cruel tyrant plays and guiltless men doth smite/ They dreadeth him who him do dread so fear doth chiefly light/ On causer chief: a just revenge for bloody minds at last.” Seneca’s Oedipus.
