NIDA welcomes applications from international students for enrolment in the Bachelor of Dramatic Art in Acting (Acting or Music Theatre streams), Design, Production, Costume, Staging or Properties and Graduate Diploma in Dramatic Art specialising in either Directing or Playwriting and Master of Dramatic Art specialising in Directing.
International applicants to the full-time courses are required to attend an audition or interview in Australia, although for non Acting courses an interview may be available through skype or similar. Auditions and interviews are held in November each year. It should be noted that entry to the NIDA full-time courses is extremely competitive.
All applicants, whether Australian or international, are assessed purely on merit and are subject to the same admission procedures.
As an international applicant it is essential that you are aware of the visa conditions and financial obligations you are required to meet as an international student. International students accepted into any of the NIDA courses are responsible for all arrangements concerning entry into and residence in Australia. This includes visas and health insurance.

Financial Information
Before applying for a course at NIDA, you should consider your financial responsibilities as a full time international student in Australia. You will have to prove your financial capacity to cover tuition fees, travel and living costs and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
The courses have high contact hours, a minimum of 40 hours per week, leaving little time to undertake any outside work whilst studying.

Cost of Living
You will have to show evidence to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and that you have sufficient finance to cover yourself for the duration of your course. Health Cover
You must have acceptable health insurance cover for the period of your intended stay in Australia. You will be required to provide evidence that you have paid Overseas Student Health Cover for the term of your study before you are permitted to commence your course at NIDA. This is also a condition of your visa.
To meet this requirement, you should pay for overseas student health cover (OSHC) for yourself and any family members who will live with you in Australia. The OSHC provides medical and hospital insurance.

Applying for a Student Visa
You can apply for a visa online or by submitting a hard copy of the application form. E-visa applications may not be submitted until 3 months before the start of the course. E-visas and forms are available at http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/index.htm
A student visa application can be made once you have received a written offer from NIDA. You are to supply written (or electronic) evidence of your offer of a place at NIDA and confirmation of enrolment (including payment of fees) with the application form. You will receive this Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from NIDA.
All initial student visas granted do not provide for the holder to be granted permission to work in Australia. Students will only be able to apply for a student visa with work rights after they arrive in Australia.
You may be required to undergo medical examinations and a chest x-ray as part of your student visa application.
It is expected that all students will be available to start on the first day of the NIDA year, with the first week for new students being Orientation Week. If there is a valid reason, such as a visa issue, commencing students can seek permission to miss some or all of the first week, Orientation Week. Commencing students must be available to start classes at NIDA on the first day of the second week of the NIDA year, otherwise they will not be permitted to start the course in that year and will have to reapply for entry in the following year.
Only in the most exceptional circumstances will permission be given to start at NIDA at some other day within the second week of the first term.
English proficiency
It is a requirement of NIDA that international students have a satisfactory level of English language proficiency. NIDA prefers that students have an English language proficiency equivalent to an overall band score of 7.0 or 8.0 IELTS (International English Language Testing System), depending on the course.
