GRADUATE ACHIEVEMENTS


The red carpet kept rolling along in 2008 as NIDA graduates had yet another year of recognition for their excellent work across the theatre and film arenas. Cate Blanchett managed a raft of nominations for her role in Elizabeth: The Golden Age and both Peter Duncan and 
Richard Roxburgh had strong support for their Australian feature films,
Unfinished Sky and Romulus, My Father as did Anna Broinowski for her documentary, Forbidden Lie$. Hugo Weaving and Colin Friels were honoured with awards for their outstanding career achievements.

In all over 70 graduates received awards/nominations, grants and fellowships for their creative achievements and ventures in the fields of writing, directing, acting and design.  Over 50 graduates undertook new appointments with in the industry both nationally and internationally.

Acting and costume design graduates held their own on the international film scene contributing to major studio releases including:The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, I'm Not There, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Avatar, Rendition, Terminator Salvation, Seven Pounds, Speed Racer, Transformers, Fools Gold and The Nanny Diaries. At home,  graduates work featured in films including: Australia, The Black Balloon, Unfinished Sky, Children of the Silk Road, Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger, In Her Skin and Cactus.

The international television scene also proved fruitful with graduates working on: The Bill, Casualty, Cold Case, Cashmere Mafia, Crossing Jordan, The Flight of the Conchords, Fringe, Moonlight, The Pacific and Without a Trace.   Local shows featuring graduates included: All Saints, Bastard Boys, Canal Road, Chandon Pictures, East West 101, East of Everything, Home and Away, Satisfaction, Sea Patrol, The Strip, Underbelly, McLeod's Daughters, Packed to the Rafter's and Rush

Graduates also dominated the national theatre scene working for all the major companies including: Australian Shakespeare Co, Australian Theatre for the Deaf, Barking Gekko Theatre Co, Bell Shakespeare, Belvoir St, Black Swan Theatre Co, Darlinghurst Theatre Co, Deckchair Theatre Co, Ensemble Theatre, Griffin, La Boite, La Mama, Malthouse, Melbourne Theatre Co, Old Fitzroy, Perth Theatre Co, Red Stitch Theatre, Queensland Theatre Co, State Theatre Co of SA, Sydney Theatre Co and Theatre of Image. Internationally graduates shone on and off Broadway, for the Royal Shakespeare Company and at the Edinburgh, Hong Kong and New York Fringe Festivals.
