A Midsummer Night's Dream

To celebrate NIDA's 50th anniversary year come and join us in the Playhouse theatre for the spectacle, the fun and the excitement of William Shakespeare's most magical play.  Hermia loves Lysander, but is forbidden to marry him.  They flee to an enchanted wood, pursued by Demetrius who loves Hermia.  Helena in turn follows Demetrius, as she loves him.  In another part of the woods, a group of amateurs rehearse a play for the king.  Oberon and Titania, Kind and Queen of the Fairies, helped by Puck, cast the lovers and the amateur players into turmoil through their magic and their own jealousies.

32 carefully selected and rehearsed Summer students have spent weeks preparing with a team of experienced practitioners including Open Program Artistic Associate and freelance director Mark Gaal, director and actor Darren Gilshenan, actor and director Sean Hall and performer Samantha Chester.  Click here to purchase tickets from Ticketek.

One Day in December

December 2nd, 1999 - a commuter train crashed into the back of the almost stationary Indian Pacific.  Seven point five metres of train was reduced to fifty centimetres on impact; seven people in the front carriage were instantly killsed and fifty-one people were taken to hospital, some of them "walking", others in traction.  This new Australian play, performed by 16 NIDA Open Program students, tells their story.  The production is directed y Jennifer Hagan and written by Linden Wilkinson.
