DONATIONS POLICY

The Library welcomes offers of material and donations to enrich our existing collection, on the understanding that they will be added to the collection only if appropriate and needed.

Material donations

While many generous donations have added depth and breadth to the Library collection, the administrative and processing costs associated with donated material tend to mitigate against the perceived value in many instances. As a general rule, donated materials should be of sufficient value, and direct relevance, that the Library would have been prepared to purchase them.

Funds for cataloguing and processing are used firstly for high use materials, so donations may be left uncatalogued for some time unless funds can be found for urgent processing.

The Library is particularly interested in:
Play scripts of recent date
DVDs of “art house” and feature films
Books on theatre and the drama as presented on stage rather than drama as a literary study
Books on art, photography, history and social history
Sound recordings to provide a general coverage of the history of music, with particular emphasis on Music Theatre materials, in CD or LP format but not cassette tape.
Sound recordings of dialects in any format available, preferably recordings of native speakers.

We are less interested in:
Books on film, television, opera, ballet
Videos in superseded formats e.g. VHS
Novels
Books of a general nature

Conditions of acceptance:

• All donated material becomes the property of the NIDA and cannot be claimed back at a later date
• Material is not accepted as a long term loan
• The Library has the right to dispose of any items which are not accepted for inclusion. These items are normally sold to raise money for further acquisitions, or donated to an appropriate institution
• All donations will be integrated into the existing collection and are subject to the same conditions of use as the rest of the collection
• Freight costs of donations are to be paid by the donor
• Material must be in good condition & not requiring binding or repair
• Material must be relevant to the teaching and research programs of the Institution/
