A Movement Studies Production | Parade Playhouse Bodyline 08 has assembled an exciting creative team that draws on rich cultural experiences from Australia and around the world. Featuring NIDA First Year Actors, Bodyline 08 will be directed and choreographed by current Graduate Diploma of Movement Studies students Benjamin Graetz, an indigenous Australian and Daniella Lacob from South Africa, as well as Tony Wong, a Masters of Movement Studies student from Hong Kong.
Bodyline is the major performance component of NIDA’s Post Graduate Movement Studies course and is much admired by audiences for its innovative and daring approach to physical theatre.
‘The concept for Bodyline is that it is very much a collaborative work,’ says Julia Cotton, Head of Movement Studies at NIDA. ‘The First Year Actors are involved in the creative process, facilitating and shaping the work with the directors, as are the Second Year Design and Second and Third Year Production students. They gain experience in devising and performing a non-text based piece, providing them with the unique opportunity of developing an original, physically based piece with the director. The culminating product is not a dance work, but a visual and emotional exploration of the power of physical theatre.’
