Dive In this Summer!
Summer 2009 was a huge success at NIDA with over 1800 people attending. We had students from Japan, Canada, the USA, the UK, New Zealand and Korea excited to be part of our world famous Summer Program. Our full summer program is now available, search the courses by using the left hand menu.
Some highlights include: * The return of our famous Summer Studios which are now available for online bookings * Summer On Tour - when we tour to Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne. * Our Summer Production of Alice in Wonderland a fabulous all ages production. Tickets will be available shortly. * NIDA at the Powerhouse Museum - step back in time when some of our favourite courses go 80's style. Earlybird prices still apply to all courses at the Powerhouse Museum, courses are in week 1 and week 2.
NIDA's Summer Program is the place to meet creative people within the stimulating and supportive environment of Australia's premier performing arts institution. Work wih skilled professionals from the entertainment industry in NIDA's world-class facilities - theatres, sound stage, rehearsal studios and workshops.
A range of courses covering acting, directing, design and technical production caters for those who are serious about training and those who are interested in a recreational experience.
A number of NIDA's award-winning graduates teach with the NIDA Open Program. Just some who will be working with our summer program include: Damian Walshe-Howling (Underbelly, Blue Heelers), Caroline Craig (Underbelly, Blue Heelers), Wil Traval (All Saints, Underbelly 3), Aaron Jeffery (Wolverine, McLeod's Daughters) and Kieren Darcy-Smith (The Square, McLeod's Daughters, Two Hands) are highly experienced in the industry as well as excellent teachers. Other tutors include screen directors such as Ian Watson (director Love My Way, Secret Life of Us) Cate Shortland (director Somersault, Secret Life of Us, MDA & The Silence), Tony Krawitz (director Jewboy, The Surgeon and Secret Life of Us) and and theatre directors such as Jennifer Hagan and Mary-Anne Gifford. Many NIDA staff also teach including Tony Knight, Head of Acting (Stanislavski Masterclass) and Lyn Pierse, Improvisation tutor (The Art of Improvisation).
January is summer time in Sydney and NIDA is located close to fabulous Bondi and Coogee beaches. If you're travelling from overseas or from interstate, it's a great chance to enjoy Sydney's sun and surf and nurture your creative talent.
January is also Festival time in Sydney, so check the Sydney Festival program for dance, theatre, music, visual arts, film and outdoor events at www.sydneyfestival.org.au. Discounted tickets to some Sydney Festival shows will be available to Summer Program participants.
Accommodation is available across the road from NIDA in the University of New South Wales' colleges.
